Experience
From field engineer to project manager.
Read it like a schedule: every role from start to finish, with the concurrent ones on the same timeline.
Career schedule
-
Commanded a 200+ soldier unit, with paratrooper training. Safety discipline and decisions under pressure started here.
-
Operated excavators and loaders, ran the rock crushing plant and inspected field work while completing engineering studies. Built budgets and production forecasts from real fuel burn and crew output.
- AEH Constructions and AssociatesEcuadorAug 2009Jan 2025
-
Field supervision, quantity takeoffs, bids and pay estimates on public works.
-
Contractor-side field engineer at foreman level: daily crew direction, inspection, quantities and pay estimates. Promoted to superintendent in November 2013.
-
Assistant superintendent on the works as my roles grew: crews, equipment and daily production next to the superintendent, alongside my first contracts as superintendent of record.
-
Chief superintendent of self-perform work across nine provinces, with superintendents and work fronts reporting to me: crushing, batch plants, asphalt, in-place soil-cement and paving crews. Managed production, quantities, 150+ people and a 113-unit fleet, and closed out each job with the owner. Chief superintendent on La Avanzada–Saracay and Catamayo–Trapichillo; project director and chief superintendent on Manuel Córdova Galarza Avenue (MTOP); project manager of record on Piñas–El Pache–Portovelo. See the projects
-
Project manager and director of record on the Pindal–Milagros–Paletillas (18.5 mi) and Panamericana–Casanga provincial road contracts. On Pindal, final acceptance came after every provisional-acceptance observation was closed.
-
Remote QA/QC and constructability support for civil contractors and developers; in 2025, residential developments on Florida’s east coast.
-
Remote graduate teaching in highway and transportation engineering, on sustainable pavements and RAP; master’s thesis advisor on recycled pavement materials.
In practice
What the work demands, and where I’ve done it.
| Responsibility | Where I’ve done it |
|---|---|
| Plan and run projects from start to finish | 34 contracts delivered from mobilization to handover, $83.5M in total. |
| Coordinate crews and subcontractors, on time and on budget | Crews through their foremen; subcontractors through buyout and daily coordination. Provisional acceptance requested on day 56 of 60, despite about 8.8% added scope and no time extension. |
| Lead heavy highway construction | Chief superintendent on MTOP highway contracts; project manager of record on MTOP and provincial highway contracts; about 66,000 cy of paving concrete on a 15.5-mile corridor (as a subcontractor). |
| Communicate clearly, in writing and on site | Daily logs, production reports, pay estimates and closeout packages; crews coordinated in English and Spanish. |
| Catch discrepancies early | Quantities and pay estimates reconciled with the owner’s inspectors (the CEI equivalent); QA/QC to ACI-based specifications with ASTM and AASHTO testing. |
| Mentor people and grow the team | Foremen and field engineers led on site; master’s professor and thesis advisor since 2025. |
